A partnership to Support Mental Resilience Among Veterans’ Families
REDARC Defence & Space (RDS) has announced a three-year strategic partnership with Legacy Club of South Australia & Broken Hill (Legacy SA&BH) to deliver targeted support for veterans’ families and reinforce a shared commitment to those who have sacrificed in service to Australia.
The partnership is centred on Legacy’s longstanding promise to care for the partners and children of veterans who have given their lives or health through physical or mental incapacitation. Today, Legacy SA&BH supports more than 2,400 families, including 102 children.
Legacy REDARC Resilience Program
RDS will establish the Legacy REDARC Resilience Program, a dedicated initiative that will provide practical support and mental health resources to the partners of veterans who have died or become incapacitated as a result of their service.
The program draws on the concept of resilience, a principle embedded in both engineering and everyday life. Just as REDARC products are tested to perform in extreme conditions, including heat, cold, dust and vibration, the program aims to help participants build the skills and confidence needed to navigate life’s challenges.
Mental resilience is the ability to adapt, remain steady and recover from adversity. The Legacy REDARC Resilience Program will provide meaningful opportunities for connection, reflection and personal growth through:
- Therapeutic Art Sessions: Creative opportunities for expression, communication and conversation that support mental wellbeing and resilience.
- Lived Experience Luncheons: Opportunities for women to share a meal, build social connections and hear from speakers with lived experience of mental illness.
The partnership also recognises the strong connection both organisations share with South Australia and the local defence community. As Legacy SA&BH approaches its centenary in 2028, REDARC Defence & Space will support the milestone by funding up to six Legacy Centenary Benches. Located across regional South Australia and Broken Hill, the benches will provide a lasting reminder of Legacy’s contribution to veterans’ families and the ongoing support provided by the broader community.

Legacy was founded on a promise to “look after the missus and kids”. For the Diggers in the First World War that didn’t make it home, those that did return pledged to look after their partners and children. Today Legacy looks after the families of deceased Veterans as well as those who have a physical or mental incapacitation and find it difficult to support their families. Legacy relies on Corporate Partners and other fundraising activities to support its programs. This state-based club assists families impacted by older conflicts such as WWI, WW2, Vietnam or Korea or in later conflicts such as in Afghanistan, Iraq, Timor or peace-keeping missions.
