REDARC and See D!fferently OPK9: A Partnership for Veteran Wellbeing

See D!fferently OPK9 assistance dogs are more than just companions. These highly trained dogs are dedicated to alleviating the physical and mental health challenges faced by veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), veterans who have sacrificed so much for their country.

On Thursday, January 23rd, representatives from See D!fferently, including CEO Damian Papps, Sally Raphael, Wendy Lucas, trainers Daniel and Indigo, and their canine companions, visited REDARC Defence & Space. The purpose of their visit was to talk about their meaningful work and showcase REDARC’s significant contribution to the outfitting of their new transportation van.

See D!fferently needed a solution to ensure the dogs’ comfort and wellbeing inside the van, both during transit and when parked. REDARC Training Manager, Steve Moore, spearheaded the project, collaborating with the van body builder and air conditioning installer to design a custom REDARC system. REDARC generously donated a BMS Alpha 75A, RedVision Screen, 200W solar panel, and two 150Ah Alpha batteries. The system has performed flawlessly, enabling up to eight dogs to travel comfortably at a time.

“We are incredibly grateful to Anthony, Michele, and the team at REDARC Defence & Space for their extraordinary support,” said Damian Papps, Executive Director of See Differently. “This donation ensures our dogs remain safe and comfortable while training, even in Adelaide’s extreme heat, allowing us to get more guide and assistance dogs out into the community. It’s corporate partnerships like this that help us to continue providing life-changing support to those who need it most”

“It’s fantastic to have a valued partner like REDARC Defence & Space continuing to support veterans through programs like OPK9,” said Damian Papps, Executive Director of See Differently. “The bond between our assistance dogs and veterans is truly transformative, and this generous contribution strengthens our ongoing partnership, ensuring we can continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have served.”

Following the van demonstration, the See D!fferently team joined REDARC employees in the lunchroom. Wendy Lucas shared insights into their puppy program, while Daniel and Indigo, accompanied by Everest and Bosley, demonstrated the dogs’ abilities and discussed how they help veterans reintegrate into civilian life. The visit concluded with an exciting highlight: the dogs made a special tour of the REDARC offices.

REDARC has proudly supported the See D!fferently OPK9 program since 2022, providing highly trained assistance dogs to veterans living with PTSD. By supporting See Differently, REDARC invests in the wellbeing of those who have served our country. This partnership aligns with REDARC’s commitment to empowering individuals as they rebuild their lives and reconnect with their communities. Previously, REDARC supported the OPK9 program by furnishing their training room to replicate a home environment, aiding in dog training exercises.
